The Autopsy Coordinator will coordinate the Memory & Aging Center Autopsy Program under the supervision of the Neurodegenerative Disease Brain Bank Administrative Manager and the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr

This position involves multiple responsibilities including education, enrollment, procurement coordination, and documentation for the successful operation of this critical program
The individual is on-call most weekdays and weeknights as well as one to two weekends per month, and is contacted at the time of death to facilitate the procurement of donor tissue, frequently working with the Administrative Manager and PI to problem-solve when unique autopsy situations arise (and occasionally addressing such situations independently.) S/he is responsible for maintaining contact with the cohort of living research participants and disseminating pathology reports to donor families
Advanced planning with families, technicians, and funeral homes is imperative
The Autopsy Coordinator is the primary liaison with the Department of Pathology, additional collaborators from outside organizations, and other dementia research centers
S/he is the public face of UCSF's brain autopsy/donation program, representing the program at research events and addressing all questions from potential donors
S/he will also train autopsy pager coverage rotators who volunteer to coordinate procurements.

• High School graduation or General Education Diploma and one to two years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows
• Proficiency with LAVA and APEX
• Knowledge or experience in aging, end-of-life issues, and dementia
• Advanced interpersonal skills, including but not limited to teamwork and the ability to communicate frankly and compassionately with family members of dying patients and bereaved families
• Ability to remain available 24/7 while taking call coverage
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including critical thinking, active listening, persuasiveness, advising skills, and clear/concise communication at all times
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams and establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians
Note: Fingerprinting and background check required.
• Experience working with patients or study subjects
• Knowledge of neuroscience, neuroanatomy, and pathology
